Mold is not only a difficult and costly problem to deal with but it can also cause health problems since mold produces irritants and allergens that can compromise our health. Mold spores spread easily and can grow on the carpet, on food, on walls, and around ceiling tiles.

If you want to prevent mold in your kitchen and bathroom the first thing you need to do is to learn about your region’s climate to determine the chances of mold growing and spreading in your house since not all solutions are suited for all environmental conditions considering that moist and humidity differ from climate to climate.

The second thing you need to know is that the best way to prevent mold is moisture control. This is why it is important to learn about the moisture in your climate zone.

Here are some ways to control moisture and to prevent mold in your kitchen and bathroom:

Identify The Problem Areas

The best thing to do to prevent mold is to make your home mold-proof, especially the kitchen or bathroom where the moisture levels are higher. Check your windows for frequent condensation, check the ceiling or if you had a water leak, check your kitchen and bathroom carpets. Those areas should be checked since they make the perfect environment for mold. Change the carpets, insulate your windows and repair gutters or the pipes that leak.

Dry Wet Areas

If you want to prevent mold in your kitchen and bathroom, dry wet areas right away, especially the floor and walls in the bathroom after a shower. Don’t leave wet clothes or wet items around the house. Hang your clothes immediately after you removed them from the washing machine and dry them. You can hang them outside during summer or even during warm spring and fall days.

Prevent Moisture

Proper ventilation is the best way to prevent the moisture that causes mold to grow in the kitchen and bathroom. Use dehumidifiers in high-moisture areas, open windows when you cook or wash the dishes, use vent appliances in your bathroom and use them during and after taking a shower.

Use Mold-resistant Products

If you plan to renovate your bathroom or kitchen, use mold inhibitors for paint and/or install moisture-resistant drywall is perfect for bathrooms, laundry rooms or kitchens.

Monitor Humidity

The recommended humidity is between 30 and 60 percent. If you want to prevent mold, by a moisture meter and measure humidity in the bathroom and kitchen. Also, pay attention to condensation. If you notice condensation on pipes, walls or windows, dry the surface right away.

Inspect Roof Gutters

Sometimes mold grows because the roof is leaking due to damaged roof gutters. Check the roof gutters, clean them on a regular basis and repair them if you find any damage.

Improve Air Flow In Your Home

Another way to prevent mold is to improve the airflow in your bathroom and kitchen. Good air flow means less moisture on your walls, floors, and windows so, in order to increase air circulation, open your windows and move the furniture in the kitchen or bathroom away from the walls.
