5 DIY Projects Your Kids Can Help With

DIY, DIY projects, kids projects

Children will fill your home with laughter and noise. They will keep you busy and in most cases you end up feeling that there is absolutely nothing that you can do around the home. Fortunately, this is not actually the case. There are still many things that you can do and various DIY projects can actually involve the kids. This is what we will highlight below.

Painting A Room In The Home

For a child it is a lot of fun to paint a room. You can allow him/her to do the undercoat and you can do the rest and in the event you want to have some creativity, let the child completely do a wall portion or an entire wall. You will be surprised to see how creative children can be. Some will draw a simple pattern while others will create stories. No matter the case, you will be fun and you can take care of the rest of the room in the time the child takes care of one part.

Plant Window Boxes

Small window boxes or containers can be wonderful for a child to learn planting basics. Digging in the dirt is a favorite activity for many kids so why not make this a huge event? You want to be sure all supplies and tools are available as the project is about to start. When time passes the child will end up feeling proud, with an ownership sense as the plants start growing. Planting flowers is definitely a great idea with a window box.

Build Bat Houses

This is a little out of the box but a bat is actually quite useful around the home as it can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes every single hour. When you live in an area that is plagued by these biters you will surely appreciate having a bat house. The great thing about it is that the project is just simple carpentry. The entire family can join. You get to teach the child more about ecosystems and the bat house is an incredibly fun project around Halloween.

Create Stepping Stones

Stepping stones can easily personalize and dress up a walkway or a garden. Kits are available in many craft stones, even if they are quite expensive. An alternative would be to just buy quick mortar mix, molds and decorations so that you can transform this into a DIY project. Use concrete mixing instructions and let the kids join in on the fun since such a project is actually much more enjoyable than what many think.

Clean Drains

You obviously do not want the children near bottles of caustic, harsh chemicals but there are natural alternatives that you can always take into account. In fact, a great option is to create your very own cleaning solution for the clogged drains. The children are helpful as they mix the recipe, treating everything like an experiment. Add 1 cup of baking soda to half a cup of salt and a quarter of a cup of tartar cream. Just use a quarter of this mixture in the drain and add 2 boiling water cups. Let everything stand for half an hour and flush.
